1} Geology: Unaweep Canyon is the only know canyon in the world to have its very own mini continental divided. It has two different creeks running east and west, meeting at the top of the canyon.
History: from 1910-1923, almost all of the uranium in the radium in the world came from the mines in Unaweep canyon, which was needed in WW2 so the mining spiked around this time. The mines are now closed, due to the dangerous nature of radium.
Plant life: The plant life is similar to that of Grand junction including the small Pinyon Pine tree, the yellow lovely Rabbitbrush, and my personal favorite for the fruit it bears, the Brown-Spined Prickly Pear Cactus, and more!
Watershed: The watershed needs to be conserved at all costs! The irresponsible use of water in day to day lives would cause the watershed to drain affecting not only the people who use it but the wild life as well. All of the fish and insects on the river would start to die out so we need to make sure that we use our water conservatively and practically so we do not disturb nature.
Wild life: Gateway hosts many different variety of creature including insects like the Ellis dotted blue butterfly, and birds like the long, blue Magpie, America's very own Bald Eagle, it hosts mammals such as the giant elk and mule deer, predators such as the fierce mountain lion or the graceful bobcat, and reptiles like the colorful collard lizard and the slithery gopher snake.
